Junior Rosbif #1 has had a 5 day weekend as state schools in Victoria went out on strike last Thursday against the state government's miserly attitude to teachers' pay, as well as over the ideological gap between the union and the government over the government's policy regarding paying teachers according to their results. Anyway, JR#1 had the day off followed by a curriculum day on Friday, with the added bonus that today is the official Queen's Birthday holiday! She and Mrs. R. had a Mummy/Daughter bonding day on Friday where they hit the shops to buy some things that were needed (clothes, shoes), as well as some things that weren't (books).
At one of their stops they found this cracker in the bargain bin for $A10!
It's a book of full colour plates of contemporary (or near-contemporary) maps of battles, campaigns, fortifications and geographical areas, with most of the material sourced from the archives of the Public Records Office, Kew. It covers everything from the plans of the Bastille to the Battle of Waterloo with everything in between, including the Peninsular Wars, naval battles, the 1813 campaign to mention a few.
This will surely be handy for the planning of any future big January historical battle bash!
An example of the maps as requested by FireMonkeyBoy! |
I know someone who would kill to get a copy of this.
ReplyDeleteAnd so cheap! You lucky guy.
Fantastic find and how lovely of them to think of their man slaving away (painting furiously no doubt!) at home while they were out shopping!
ReplyDeleteGreat find, which shop were they in?
ReplyDeleteIt was Readings, a retail chain here in Melbourne.
DeleteNice score! Any chance of seeing some of the maps?
ReplyDeleteYour wish is my command, FMB! I've scanned and uploaded an image of one of the maps of the 1812 campaign for your viewing pleasure.
