A piece of history (in more ways than one!)

Courtesy of a colleague of my wife's (thanks Peter!), I've become the proud owner of a remarkably well preserved 46 year old issue of LIFE magazine commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo.

It's not much more than a potted history of the battle, but it's got some lovely colour illustrations, and as a time capsule of life in 1965 the magazine is priceless (viz. cigarette ads, alcohol ads and advertisements for polystyrene cups using their disposabilty as a selling point!)

  1. Good to see Lady Butler leading the charge. I think I can see at least three of Hers on show.

  2. I have nothing to do with it! I don't know your wife; :-D

Serious, what a nice find. I recognize some of the pictures. I have them on postcards or as illustrations in other books.

I'm looking forward to the year 2015 for the 200 year anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo. And I will be present there ;-)

    Greetings
    Peter

  3. Fantastic find! You'd never get such a great piece in today's mainstream press I'm sure!
